Amanda King is a current member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the American Academy of Private Practice in Speech Pathology and Audiology (AAPPSPA), and the Colorado State Speech and Hearing Association (CSHA). She has her Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. During graduate school, Amanda completed internships at Emory University hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, two nationally recognized hospitals.
Throughout her career, Amanda has worked in the Colorado school systems and home health agencies. In the school systems, Amanda focused largely on improving language and reading comprehension and social language skills. While working with pediatrics in the home environment, therapy centered on developing functional language skills to ease the child’s and parent’s frustration created by difficulty communicating and give the child the language skills to communicate effectively at the same rate as their peers. Amanda’s philosophy is that family involvement is the key to the child’s success in speech therapy. Parents and families are strongly encouraged to observe and to participate in therapy to encourage and speed the generalization process of skills learned to the home environment. Amanda works closely with parents and siblings to maximize their child’s potential.
